With summer wrapping up, we wanted to take a quick moment to thank everyone who stopped by the Farmer’s Market to say hello and gather info on the Food Center and Village North projects.
Your interest and engagement means the world to us!
And, because we know how much you appreciate staying in the loop, we’ve decided to start sending short, monthly updates of the progress you’ve helped us achieve.
Thanks to your support, the Rooted & Rising campaign has raised over $5.7 million dollars in the name of food security and affordable housing. That is something to be truly proud of and we couldn’t have done it without people like you who believe in preserving “the Lopez way,” while feeding and housing our friends and neighbors.
While we still have $700,000 to go in order to meet our $6.4M goal, both the Lopez Food Center and Housing Lopez are making amazing progress.
In July of this year, Housing Lopez secured the Village North building permit and, just days after receiving the greenlight, broke ground on the first 15 units of phase 1 at Village North. The site work, including building foundations and laying utilities, is already underway and we are on track to finish by the end of next year.
Meanwhile, the Lopez Food Center is in the final stages of finishing off their architectural designs and are preparing to apply for their Land Use Permit. They intend to submit for their building permit before the end of 2024.
It’s times like these that progress can feel minimal but it is the unwavering support and collective effort of our island that keep us committed and confident that we are truly working toward a more equitable future for all Lopez residents, creating a place where everyone can thrive.
Rooted in community and rising to the challenge,
